Ladder bracing tends to be drier and brighter and with a tighter bass.They actually lend themselves to recording well because they lack that booming bass that can be frustrating to mix with other instruments. Django Reinhardt's guitar was ladder braced and it has a bit of that sound as well.

The x braced has a much more even tone to my ear, it sounds more ' expensive ', but the original has its own thing. If i had one I'd leave it as it is.

Well played, sure, but honestly I prefer the original song tuning. To me it sounds like you're playing 2-4 frets too low, *maybe* playing in something like drop D. Makes the bottom end sound murky to me, personally. It's a matter of taste of course, keep doing what you love. if you ever end up doing this song in its original tuning tag me here. And yes, I listened to an isolated guitar only track of the original song to make sure I wasn't crazy.
